ServiceNow Developer (Senior DevOps Engineer) at IT Lab, London

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced ServiceNow Developer to join our Business Systems team. Relevant experience and the ability to learn quickly, communicate well at all levels, work with 100% commitment and contribute to the success of our existing team of dedicated professionals is vital. 

The Role

This senior role will work with the Product Owner, Scrum Master and colleagues to ensure that development work is properly prioritised and delivered to timelines agreed with stakeholders. The focus of this role is on ServiceNow, IT Lab’s key operational platform. The ServiceNow Developer will be expected to provide expert input into the design, planning and execution of a wide range of ServiceNow projects (spanning ITSM, ITBM, CSM, ITOM, Orchestration and Domain Separation). 

This role presents a unique opportunity to shape the end to end use of the Now Platform in a fast growing Managed Service Provider, and to deliver leading edge functionality for both internal use cases and for external customer requirements. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work within an Agile environment, developing based on requirements captured in the ServiceNow agile module and in accordance with acceptance criteria
  • Work with Scrum master to self-organise around agreed sprint goals
  • Translate user requirements into ServiceNow technical designs and work with the product owner to document appropriate agile stories 
  • Develop ServiceNow functionality, applications and integrations with other platforms
  • Design, implement and maintain a Domain separated environment
  • Plan for and execute regular platform upgrades (keeping the platform at n-1)
  • Design and build with a ‘secure by design’ mindset
  • Carry out all appropriate testing to deliver quality work at all times
  • Provide expert input into the ServiceNow platform design, product vision and roadmap
  • Ensuring comprehensive knowledge of current and future ServiceNow modules/features
  • Work with the Product Owner, and commercial team, to ensure we are offering the most appropriate solutions to clients and that development deliverables are correctly scoped
  • Engagement with stakeholders, internal to IT Lab and external clients and vendors
  • Respond to and resolve operational issues & defects

Required skills and capabilities:

  • Strong understanding of service now core and configuration
  • Experience in an agile scrum environment 
  • Experience in ServiceNow technical design of new modules from user stories 
  • Highly developed understanding of update set best practice
  • Significant experience across ServiceNow API and JavaScript
  • Experience with REST API’s
  • Front End Development experience highly desirable
  • Experience in platform upgrades
  • Exposure to working in a Domain Separated ServiceNow environment would be an advantage
  • Is familiar with the use of comments to provide inline documentation
  • Experience designing and building software within an MSP environment (Desirable) 
  • Can evidence input into smart designs to drive flexibility without code 
  • Experience with TDD or BDD test/business driven development
  • Experience in code versioning, ideally git
  • ITIL/Service Management or Support/IT Operations understanding would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, communicating clearly and concisely
  • Positive and proactive approach at every level and under pressure

The Package

  • Working hours will be 40 hours a week during standard business hours (Monday – Friday, 9am-6pm)
  • Offices based in Russell Square London
  • Package dependent on experience
